Nua Children's Day event - free family fun day

One of the activities on offer was the Mission Impossible Obstacle Course, which is a 36 metre long blow up course, which puts children’s speed, stamina and co-ordination to the test. The Bouncy Boxing and the Tug-o-war Machine were also a huge hit with the kids, as well as egg and spoon, sack, and three-legged races.

Pre-schoolers were able to take some time out in the Pre-School Marquee, where activities were on offer such as painting, play dough, a water trough and music.

The entertainment included Mr Topper the Magician, Ohau School Kapahaka Group, and the hugely talented Year Nine college students, who sang and played guitar which gave the crowd goosebumps!

The children enjoyed the ‘shuffling’ competition and ‘freeze’ game on the stage, and the man on the sound system kept the music pumping for the entire event which created a terrific atmosphere across the whole park.

The very awesome ‘Nua Children’s Day Crew’ included seven face painters who were extremely talented, it seemed that no two children’s faces were painted the same. Two brilliant Ta Moko artists were kept busy applying Ta Moko to faces and arms, and three balloon twisters gave out 300 balloons in just over an hour!

With many mouths to feed, the very sensational sausage sizzling cooks and helpers gave out 1,000 free sausages in just over two hours! Phew!

The involvement of the Horowhenua Youth Voice (Junior Council) kids was fantastic. They were given tasks such as running the races and activities, and helping out on the sausage sizzle.

Having the young people volunteer at community events like Children’s Day, helps to create a community of dependable, responsible young people who care for their community.
