Run an event online
Looking for ideas to help you run an event online for Te Rā o Ngā Tamariki Aotearoa | Children's Day NZ?
Tips and Tricks
Choose somewhere to host it, both online and in person
If you're involved in a community organisation there's a good chance you'll run your event from your usual location. If you're choosing to run it elsewhere, make sure the location is very clear in your event listing otherwise you'll have people turning up to the wrong place.
If your group is running an online event it's important to make sure you've chosen a way to host your event online well ahead of time. You'll want to make sure that you are comfortable using the option you've chosen and that it's easy to share with the people you want to invite along on the day.
Some software, like Zoom, are really good but free accounts have a limit on how long you can host an event so make sure you do your research.
It's also important to make sure you've chosen somewhere comfortable for you to host your event. It might be a little awkward to host your event while you're sitting in the middle of a busy cafe so think about where you want to be, and what can be seen on camera ahead of time.
Pro tip: Don't forget to set your event to private unless you are comfortable with people you don't know showing up.
Set a time and date
Just like a face-to-face event, people need to know when to show up!
You may want to start your event a little ahead of your scheduled start time so you can catch up with guests who show up early.
Come up with a schedule for your event
People like to know what they're getting into ahead of time so make sure you come up with a schedule and share it around to everyone you've invited.
When coming up with your schedule for the event don't forget to leave time for people to use the bathroom or grab a snack if you're planning a long event.
Another good idea is to plan a fun activity that you can do with the people that are coming along to your event such as a fun craft activity!
If you're doing something crafty make sure you think about what items your guests will have lying around the house before planning your activity.
Pro tip: If you want to do something extra special you could put some resource packs together to send out to your event attendees ahead of time.
